Mr Tshifhiwa Tshivhenga

The President of the Republic, Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country will be moving to Alert Level 1, international travel will resume for both business and leisure purposes and the country’s boarders will reopen gradually and cautiously, effective 1 October 2020.

This is a great triumph for our industry and is a testament of the work that has been done for the past months and achievements in collaboration with the public and private sector.

Now the real hard work begins.

Although this move by the government comes with a vote of confidence in the sector, now is the time for us to #COMETOGETHER and work even harder to ensure the recovery our industry as well as our country’s economy. Our industry’s continued contribution to the country’s GDP as well as job security, showcases that tourism truly can reignite the country’s economy and could be the lifeline that South Africa needs.

I wish to make a personal call to each and every one of you, to rise to this important occasion and play your part to show our international counterparts that we are ready to welcome them back to our shores.

We will continue to engage and provide various platforms to you for robust discussions, and please rest assured that we have the tools to guide and assist you during this time.
