National Public Transport Regulator Announcement - tourism industry

SATSA has been at the forefront of communications with the Department of Transport to find a solution to the Road Transport Permit / Operating Licence issues that have plagued the tourism industry.
The good news is that the establishment of the National Public Transport Regulator (NPTR) was gazetted on the 01st of July 2016. We were honoured to have Mr Jits Patel, Chief Director – Public Transport Regulation, attend and speak at the SATSA conference last week where he explained the separation of tourism transport from general public transport. The NPTR will be operational as of 29 July 2016 and all Operating Licence applications, renewals or transfers should be made directly to them. Applications currently in process with the Provincial Regulatory Entities will remain with them to be finalised.
In March 2016 SATSA participated in a joint workshop to understand the NPTR process and to give input (together with selected SATSA transport members) into the first draft accreditation criteria.
Last week SATSA received the revised draft criteria and we are now in a position to share this with all SATSA members.. Please click here to access the criteria and click here to access the Q&A document developed by the NPTR.
We are expecting this new process to bring a new set of challenges and therefore as SATSA we will continue a close relationship with the NPTR to represent the interests of our members.
